Think about pulled pork , slow roasted over an aromatic hardwood smoke, accompanied by that impossible- to -beat traditional Southern finishing sauce. To make this pulled pork recipe, you will want to set aside around 7-hours. To start, you should set your smoker to about 2degrees.


Then place the pork butt directly on the grill and cook for approximately 3-hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 160.

Smoking meat is not quick. This simple smoked pulled pork butt (AKA pork shoulder) only requires a few pantry ingredients and a smoker to achieve melt- in -your-mouth tender smoked pulled pork. By smoking low and slow, the pork butt begins to break down, tenderize, and create amazing strands of super succulent smoked pork shoulder. The first step when making smoked pulled pork barbecue is deciding which cut of pork you want to use.


Unlike brisket, pulled pork can be made from any fatty pork roast or from a whole hog. The best roast is the shoulder. To make pulled pork, you start with a pork shoulder or butt. The general technique for making pulled pork is the same for all smokers, but electric smokers have a few quirks of their own. They tend to run on the hotter side and can cook food faster than traditional smokers. You can make great pulled pork on a charcoal grill.


This is a section of the pork shoulder. Pork shoulders and related cuts are relatively inexpensive and the meat itself can be very forgiving.

I cook fresh not frozen 8-lb. Either way, I always get the product fresh from my local butcher. Because this is a block of meat, getting flavor deep inside isn’t easy. The rub we will be applying in the next step will add much of the flavor, but we want to get it deep inside the roast that the meat remains moist and well seasoned all the way through. This smoked pulled pork is pork shoulder coated in a homemade spice rub, then smoked until tender.
